Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) today unveiled three indigenous micro and small gas turbine engines in New Delhi. The three engines are NJ-05, with a thrust of 5 kg; NJ-50, with a thrust of 50 kg; and NJ-100, with a thrust of 100 kg. The Ministry said, the engines have been developed to address critical requirements for indigenous defence technologies. These compact propulsion systems are envisaged for applications such as tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, drone interceptors and compact missile systems.
Addressing the gathering, Director General of CSIR and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dr N. Kalaiselvi said that the indigenous development of such highly specialised and critical subsystems marks an important milestone in advancing the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat in aerospace engineering.
Director of CSIR-NAL, Dr Abhay A. Pashilkar highlighted the laboratory’s evolving role as a multi-stage integrator for the country’s growing drone ecosystem. He emphasised that Indian industry, including the rapidly expanding aerospace start-up ecosystem, has the potential to manufacture these advanced engines on a large scale to meet the requirements of India’s defence sector.
