Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the Constitution is not merely a document for governance, but the very soul and a moral guide for India. In a healthy democracy, both consensus and dissent hold equal importance. Respecting dissent fosters the emergence of new ideas and promotes better governance. He urged public representatives to prioritize the service of the most marginalized individuals in society.
Mr Birla was addressing a conference of public representatives in Panchkula, organized by the Haryana Legislative Assembly to mark the completion of 60 years since the state’s formation and the commencement of ‘Constitution Fortnight’ (Samvidhan Pakhwada).
Mr Birla said that Haryana’s 60-year journey of development serves as a glorious example of the strength and robustness of India’s democracy.
Reflecting on Haryana’s 60-year journey, Mr. Om Birla commended the state’s farmers, noting that by adopting modern agricultural techniques, they have made a significant contribution to the nation’s food security. The Lok Sabha Speaker highlighted that Haryana’s contribution to the country’s progress across all sectors is commendable. He noted that while the state’s youth are safeguarding the nation’s borders and internal security through their service in the armed forces, its athletes are bringing glory to India on international platforms.
