Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia today hailed the citizen-centric initiative, Sanchar Saathi’s record recovery of lost or stolen mobile handsets in a single month across the country. In a social media post, Mr Scindia said that Sanchar Saathi has helped to recover 77 thousand 692 lost or stolen mobile handsets in the month of July. He also described the achievement as milestone powered by citizen trust, smarter technology and seamless coordination between department of Telecommunications, telecom operators and the police departments across the country.

The Ministry of Communications said that the accomplishment highlights growing public trust in the initiative, showcasing citizen empowerment through technology-driven governance. It said that the significant mark is the result of a robust and indigenous platform, integrated automated workflows and real-time device traceability.

A lost or stolen handset can be reported by the citizen on Sanchar Saathi in simple steps through the www.sancharsaathi.gov.in portal or the Mobile App. Once reported, the mobile handset is blocked in Indian telecom network, preventing the misuse of such devices. Any attempt to use the lost or stolen handset is captured by the network, generating alert to the citizen and the police station for recovery and return to rightful owner.
