Harjit Singh Grewal today assumed the charge as the chairman of the National Commission for Minorities in New Delhi. His appointment was notified by the Ministry of Minority Affairs on 16th of this month.
Talking to the media after taking charge, Mr Grewal said that the Commission will work for the welfare of all minority communities and discharge its responsibilities independently. He said the Commission remains committed to addressing genuine grievances and ensuring that issues concerning minorities receive due attention. Mr. Grewal also dismissed the misconceptions which are being spread regarding the condition of minorities in the country. He asserted that the Commission would rely on facts and data while dealing with such concerns and would present verified information to the public. He added that the Commission would examine every matter objectively and take appropriate action wherever required. Mr Grewal said that the commission is poised to further strengthen its efforts towards ensuring justice, equality, empowerment and inclusive development.
