Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that integrated commerce and industry offices are being envisioned in major cities to provide businesses with a common point of access to multiple government departments and agencies. He made the announcement at a stakeholder workshop organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade in New Delhi yesterday. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada also attended the programme.
Mr. Goyal said the government is working to strengthen export facilitation through both physical and digital mechanisms. He said, instead of setting up separate offices of different departments at various locations, integrated offices will help businesses access multiple services at a single point.
The Minister also announced the development of a digital platform, Trade Connect, which will provide exporters with product-wise and HSN-code-wise information. This will include tariffs in destination countries, Free Trade Agreement opportunities and procedures for availing FTA benefits.
Mr. Goyal said the platform will use digital and AI-enabled tools to help businesses identify potential export opportunities and address infrastructure gaps.
The workshop brought together representatives of industry associations, trade bodies and sectoral organisations. Discussions focused on Ease of Doing Business reforms, trade facilitation, opportunities arising from India’s Free Trade Agreements, and challenges faced by industry in accessing markets and navigating regulatory procedures.
