Commerce and Industry Ministry says India has signed several new-generation FFTAs

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Dr C. Vanlalramsanga, said that India has signed several new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and it is essential to ensure that their benefits reach micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

He was speaking at a State-level MSME awareness and outreach programme on ‘Leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs)’, organised by the Tripura Government’s Industries and Commerce Department at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala today.

He highlighted Tripura’s significant potential due to its proximity to international borders, noting that the state has around 3.7 lakh MSMEs and exported goods worth approximately USD 15 million last year.

He stressed the need to explore niche markets and promote value-added products to enhance export earnings. He also highlighted the Centre’s initiatives, including digital reforms and the Export Promotion Mission, to strengthen the export ecosystem.

Tripura Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte also addressed the programme, highlighting state support for MSMEs. Director Deepak Kumar delivered the welcome address. Officials from DGFT, Export Promotion Councils and other agencies attended the programme.
