China: Typhoon Bavi weakens into tropical storm in Zhejiang province

In China, Typhoon Bavi has weakened into a tropical storm hours after making landfall in Zhejiang province. However, it continues to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to several parts of the country. China’s National Meteorological Centre said the storm is moving northwest across eastern China into Anhui province while steadily losing strength. Heavy to torrential rainfall and strong winds are expected to affect many cities in eastern and northeastern China over the next two days. In Anhui and several neighbouring provinces, heavy rain has already been recorded.

Around 653 inbound and outbound flights at Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao international airports are likely to be cancelled due to the storm.
