In Badminton, Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take on the Malaysian duo of Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong in the semi-final of the China Masters in Shenzhen today.
The Indian pair defeated Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-13, 16-21, 21-18 in the quarter-final yesterday. With the victory, Satwik and Chirag reached the semi-finals of the China Masters for the fourth consecutive time.
On the other hand their Malaysian opponents, Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong, pulled off a major upset by defeating Indonesia’s world No. 7 pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, 21-17, 16-21, 21-19.
The victory earned them their first-ever Super 750 semi-final appearance.
Meanwhile, India’s campaign in the singles events came to an end as Kidambi Srikanth lost to Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the Men’s Singles quarter-final. In Women’s Singles, Tanvi Sharma went down against Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki.
