In Chhattisgarh, heavy rainfall over the past two days has disrupted normal life in several districts of the state. Many rivers and streams are in spate in various districts, including those in the Bastar division as well as Mahasamund, Gariaband and Dhamtari. As a result, road connectivity to several villages has been cut off. Traffic movement has also been affected due to water flowing over roads.

More than fifty girl students were shifted to a safer location after water entered a girls’ residential school in Pantora of Gariaband district. In Dhamtari district’s Nagri block, a holiday was declared today in some schools due to waterlogging.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed all district collectors and other officials to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Balod and Kanker districts during the next twenty-four hours. Speaking to Akashvani News, meteorologist Dr Gayatri Vani said that an orange alert has been issued for Raipur, Durg and some districts of south Chhattisgarh.
