Punjab has been asked to procure 180 Lakh Metric Ton of Paddy for the Central pool during the forthcoming kharif procurement season. This was discussed during a meeting of Punjab’s Group of Ministers, held at Chandigarh, yesterday. The concerned state officials informed the ministers about the demand by the Government of India. The officials said that the Paddy will be procured at the minimum support price of 2,462 rupees per quintal.
The Ministers were also apprised that in the present year, the movement of foodgrain from Punjab stands at 75.67 Lakh Metric Ton from January to July. The meeting, comprising Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister and Water Resources Minister, was held to review the arrangements in respect of the upcoming Paddy procurement season 2026 – 27 and Wheat procurement season 2027 – 28.
