The Centre has approved procurement worth 5,547.99 crore rupees at Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for major pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27. The Agriculture Ministry has said that the decision has been taken to protect farmers from a fall in market prices and ensure remunerative returns for their produce.
Talking about the decision, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre is working with full commitment towards the welfare of farmers, increasing their incomes and making the agriculture sector self-reliant. Mr Chouhan noted that the government is firmly committed to ensuring that farmers get a fair price for their produce, and the procurement system is being made more transparent and accessible. Under the approval, large-scale procurement of various crops will be undertaken from farmers in the three states. Uttar Pradesh has been allocated the largest share, with procurement worth 3,992.57 crore rupees. This includes 4.66 lakh metric tonnes of tur worth 3,937.70 crore rupees and 6,250 metric tonnes of moong worth 54.87 crore rupees. In Karnataka, procurement worth 1,107 crore rupees has been approved. The state will see procurement of 1,15,500 metric tonnes of soybean valued at 659.27 crore rupees, 38,250 metric tonnes of moong valued at 335.83 crore rupees, and 13,413 metric tonnes of sunflower valued at 111.90 crore rupees. This includes 62,000 metric tonnes of soybean valued at 353.90 crore rupees and 10,766 metric tonnes of moong valued at 94.52 crore rupees.
Mr. Chouhan said the measure will provide economic security to farmers and encourage production of pulses and oilseeds, contributing to India’s self-reliance in pulses and edible oils. He added that procurement arrangements at all designated centres will remain transparent and farmers will receive payment for their produce directly into their bank accounts in a time-bound manner.
