The Central Government has approved a modernisation scheme worth over 733 crore rupees for the Maharashtra Police to enhance law enforcement capabilities and address emerging security challenges.
In a social media post, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the project will be implemented through a joint funding model, with the Centre contributing 60 per cent of the total cost and the State Government bearing the remaining 40 per cent.
He thanked PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for supporting the initiative.
The programme envisages strengthening cybercrime investigations through the integration of Artificial Intelligence, enhancing coastal security, equipping specialised units to combat drug-related offences, and upgrading police weaponry and high-speed response vehicles. It also provides for advanced technological measures to ensure the safety of women, children and senior citizens.
The initiative aims to transform Maharashtra Police into a technology-driven and future-ready force.
