CCPA imposes ₹7 lakh penalty on coaching centre over misleading UPSC advertisement

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi today said that the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a penalty of ₹7 lakh on a private coaching centre for misleading advertisements regarding the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023 results. He said the Authority has passed a final order under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

In a social media post, Mr Joshi said the action reinforces consumers’ right to be informed and reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and fair practices in the coaching sector. The Minister highlighted that the CCPA has so far issued more than 60 notices to coaching institutes and imposed penalties exceeding ₹1.46 crore. He said the Authority continues to safeguard students’ interests and promote informed decision-making.
