The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against the OSD to the Punjab Chief Minister (CM), Rajbir Ghuman and his associates in a case of Cash for Transfers and manipulating postings of officers, including IAS and IPS rank officers and other corruption cases to investigate these allegations.
Subsequently, raids were conducted at their 8 premises across Chandigarh, Mohali, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur and Jalandhar. Incriminating evidence such as laptops, mobile phones and documents was seized. These are being scrutinised for evidence of bribery and impropriety.
The action by the investigating agency has come in the wake of orders being passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday, after handing over the related corruption case from the Enforcement Directorate to the CBI.
Quoting official sources, Akashvani correspondent reports that 6 persons, including two public servants, middlemen and associates, namely the OSD Ghuman, brothers Nitin Gohal and Jitin Gohal, Romi Raja Mahajan, Bir Devinder, R.S. Nagra and some more unknown public servant(s) and private person(s), have been booked. Further investigation is in progress. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has condemned the CBI action, saying the Centre is misusing the agency to defame his government.
