The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reviewed enforcement measures to curb air pollution across the National Capital Region. During its Enforcement Task Force meeting, the Commission said its Flying Squads carried out 175 inspections between the 1st and 13th of this month, covering construction and demolition sites, industrial units and diesel generator set-related activities. The Commission said action has been initiated against violations, including proposals for the closure of one project or industry, sealing of 19 diesel generator sets, issuance of nine compliance directions and environmental compensation in four cases. It added that 25 resumption orders have been issued after verification of compliance, including two in Delhi, 11 in Haryana, 10 in Uttar Pradesh and two in Rajasthan.
Reviewing the overall enforcement status, the Commission said its Flying Squads have so far inspected over 27 thousand 900 units, projects and entities across the NCR. Based on these inspections, more than 18 hundred closure directions have been issued, while 1,446 resumption orders have been granted after compliance verification.
The Commission also reviewed road redevelopment works undertaken by Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and found all 42 inspected road stretches to be fully compliant with its Standard Framework for road dust mitigation. It directed all road-owning agencies across Delhi-NCR to adopt the framework for ongoing and future road redevelopment projects to help reduce dust pollution. The Commission reiterated the need for stricter enforcement, timely compliance verification and better coordination among implementing agencies to ensure effective air pollution control across the NCR.
