In a closely contested first game, the Indian shuttler edged past her opponent by 22-20, while she stepped up the second game, winning it comfortably by 21-16. She will face the 13th-seeded Michelle Li of Canada in the Round of 32.
Meanwhile, the match between the Indian pair of Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh and Turkey’s Emre Sonmez and Yasemen Bektas in the mixed doubles event is underway. The Indian duo has won the first game, 21-16.
Later in the evening, ace shuttler Lakshya Sen will face Collins Filimon of Austria in the men’s singles first round. The Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will face the United States’ Lauren Lam and Allison Lee in the second round of women’s doubles. Earlier today, India’s Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde faced a defeat against the Canadian pair of Jonathan Lai and Crystal Lai in the mixed doubles first round. After winning the first game by 22-20, the Indian duo lost the next two games by 19-21 and 17-21.
