Now, let’s travel down south…It’s Puthandu- the Tamil New Year. In Tamil households, there’s a tradition called “Kanni”- which actually refers to the auspicious first sight or first view of the new year.
इसलिए फल, सोना, फूल और दर्पण जैसी शुभ वस्तुएं सजाई जाती हैं। सुबह उठते ही आंखें बंद कर ली जाती हैं और घर के सदस्यों को सबसे पहले थाली में दिख रहे दर्पण के प्रतिबिंब को देखने के लिए कहा जाता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि नए साल की सुबह उठते ही सबसे पहले जो चीजें दिखाई देती हैं, वे पूरे साल के लिए माहौल तय करती हैं।

A community-led water conservation effort is bringing new hope to drought-affected villages in Andhra Pradesh.
“Villages in Andhra Pradesh show success in saving water through community efforts. Murugummi, Marella, and Thangella villages in Prakasam district have become examples of water conservation under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari campaign of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Earlier, these villages faced serious water problems. Rainfall was uncertain, groundwater levels were low and many borewells failed. This affected farming and daily life. The situation improved with strong community participation. People joined Gram Sabhas and awareness programs. Farmers, women, and youth worked together. They learned water budgeting, crop planning, and sharing of groundwater. Many water-saving structures were built. These include farm ponds, percolation tanks, trenches, and rooftop rainwater systems. Murugummi and Thangella built 71 structures each, while Marella built 53. As a result, groundwater levels improved. About 5,900 people now have better access to water. Farming has improved, and milk production has increased. Soil moisture is better, and fewer people are migrating for work. “बात 9 दिसंबर, 1943 की है। तत्कालीन ब्रिटिश भारत के श्रम मंत्री के रूप में बाबा साहेब धनबाद की कोयला खदानों में उतरे। कोल्हान क्षेत्र के वरिष्ठ पत्रकार प्रशांत कुमार झा बताते हैं
संविधान निर्माता की यह यात्रा यहीं नहीं थमी, झारखंड और बंगाल को दामोदर नदी के अभिशाप से बचाने के लिए बाबा साहेब ने दामोदर घाटी परियोजना की भी नींव रखी। वे केवल एक कानूनविद नहीं, बल्कि एक विज़नरी हाइड्रोलॉजिस्ट भी थे। सेवानिवृत शिक्षक दीनानाथ पांडेय की मानें तो धनबाद और जामताड़ा की सीमा पर खड़ा विशाल मैथन डैम और कोडरमा का तिलैया डैम उन्हीं की दूरगामी सोच का परिणाम हैं।
बाबा साहेब केवल उद्योगों तक सीमित नहीं थे। वे झारखंड को एक अलग प्रशासनिक पहचान देने के पक्षधर थे। 1955 में उन्होंने भाषाई आधार पर राज्यों के पुनर्गठन के दौरान दक्षिणी बिहार को एक अलग इकाई बनाने का सुझाव दिया था, जो आज के झारखंड की नींव बना। आज उनकी जयंती पर राज्य का हर वर्ग उन्हें याद कर रहा है। बाबा साहेब के विचार आज भी झारखंड की प्रगति के पथ पर मार्गदर्शक की तरह जगमगा रहे हैं। परिक्रमा के लिए धनबाद से दीपक और कोडरमा से गजेन्द्र के साथ रांची से मैं महविश रहमान।”

आज फ़िल्म निर्देशक, छायाकार और लेखक नितिन बोस की पुण्यतिथि है। वर्ष 1935 में उनकी बंगाली फ़िल्म ‘भाग्य चक्र’ में उन्होंने फ़िल्मों का पार्श्वगायन से परिचय करवाया था। बाद में यह फ़िल्म हिन्दी में ‘धूप छाँव’ नाम से बनाई गई। नितिन बोस ने अपने सिने कैरियर में छह मूक फ़िल्मों सहित 50 से भी अधिक फ़िल्मों का निर्देशन और छायांकन किया। उनकी सर्वश्रेष्ठ फ़िल्मों में से एक ‘गंगा जमुना’ को हिन्दी सिनेमा की सबसे बड़ी फ़िल्मों में से एक माना जाता है। नितिन बोस की फ़िल्म ‘गंगा जमुना’ का प्रसिद्ध गीत “इंसाफ की डगर पे, बच्चो दिखाओ चलके” ऐसा ही एक गीत था, जिसने नई पीढ़ी को उसके दायित्वों का बोध कराया।
नितिन बोस के विशिष्ट योगदान के लिए उन्हें वर्ष 1977 में ‘दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था।

ये पंक्तियां हिन्दी यात्रा साहित्य के जनक राहुल सांकृत्यायन पर बेहद उपयुक्त है, आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है। वे एक प्रतिष्ठित बहुभाषाविद थे और 20वीं सदी के पूर्वार्द्ध में उन्होंने यात्रा वृतांत तथा विश्व-दर्शन के क्षेत्र में साहित्यिक योगदान किए। बौद्ध धर्म पर उनका शोध हिन्दी साहित्य में युगान्तरकारी माना जाता है, जिसके लिए उन्होंने तिब्बत से लेकर श्रीलंका तक भ्रमण किया था। मुख्य रचनाएँ घुमक्कड़ शास्त्र, ‘सतमी के बच्चे’, ‘जीने के लिए’, ‘सिंह सेनापति’, ‘वोल्गा से गंगा’ आदि। उन्हें साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया है।

आज भारतीय हिन्दी सिनेमा की जानी-मानी अभिनेत्री मंजू सिंह की पुण्यतिथि है। मंजू सिंह ने 1980 के दशक के शुरुआती दिनों में छोटे पर्दे पर पहला प्रायोजित कार्यक्रम ‘शो थीम’ के साथ शुरूआत की। गौरतलब है कि मंजू सिंह को खासतौर पर ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की 1979 में रिलीज हुई फिल्म ‘गोलमाल’ के लिए जाना जाता था। उन्होंने इस फिल्म में ‘रत्ना’ नाम की लड़की का किरदार निभाया था।
