The Election Commission of India has directed the Chief Electoral Officers, CEOs to finalise their preparations for the Special Intensive Revision in their respective States and Union territories. The two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers concluded in New Delhi yesterday. It was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the presence of Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. After the presentations by senior officers of the Commission on the SIR process, queries raised by the CEOs were also clarified.CEOs of the States/UTs from across the country attended the meet. The Commission also interacted one-to-one with the CEOs of poll-bound states or UT of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal. The poll body assessed the progress made on the directions previously issued to the CEOs to map the current electors with the electors as per the last SIR in the State or UT.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr V Narayanan has informed that 90 percent of the work on Gaganyaan uncrewed test flight mission G1 is over and they are set for launch in December first week. We have a report:
Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru yesterday, Dr Narayanan said that tests on Crew module with escape system, parachute module, communication systems and other subsystems are successful.
Vyomamitra humanoid will fly in the uncrewed Gaganyaan mission to low Earth orbit in December. The final crewed mission of Gaganyaan is targeted for the year 2027 when three Indian astronauts will travel to outer space and will be brought back.
Speaking about NISAR Earth Observation Satellite, the ISRO chairman informed that the payloads will be operational in another 10 to 15 days. On Bharatiya Antriksh Station, he said that the first Base module will be launched by 2028 and the ISRO is working on realising the space station by 2035.
Dr Narayanan further said that the NAVIC navigation satellite with the constellation of seven satellites will be ready by 2027. On Mars Lander Mission, he said configuration is under progress and will be submitted for approval in the days to come. On the next generation rocket multi stage launchers with the capability to lift 75 to 80 thousand kgs, Dr Narayanan said ISRO is working on the technology needed for human and deep space missions. Put in to bat first, Indian openers Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana hit brilliant centuries to power India to a massive 340 for 3 in 49 overs in the rain-affected match. Mandhana scored 109, while Rawal made 122, as they shared a record-breaking 212-run opening stand, the highest for India in Women’s World Cup history. Chasing a revised DLS target of 325 from 44 overs, New Zealand managed 271 for 8 in the allotted overs, with Brooke Halliday top-scoring with 81 runs.
With this victory, India has now joined Australia, England, and South Africa in the semifinals.

The Greater Chennai Police has issued a 60 day ban on the manufacture, sale, storage and use of “maanja thread”, which is a synthetic, glass coated thread used for kite flying along with the operation of drones, remote controlled micro light aircraft and paragliders within city limits. The ban began from 22nd of October and will last till 20th of December. The ban has been implemented as a public safety measure, citing past incidents in which pedestrians, motorcyclists and birds suffered injuries from “maanja threads” hanging across roads and open areas.

Greater Chennai Traffic Police has enlisted volunteers to provide vital ground level information to improve traffic management across the city during the monsoon. A group of 1000 volunteers have been formed. Joint Commissioner P. Vijayakumar said that traffic relies mainly on real time data from the ground to make swift decisions and dispatch assistance where it is most needed. One group will collect updates about ongoing traffic problems, while another alerts the police officials concerned. A third team monitors the resolution of complaints to ensure that issues are sorted out within an hour and a fourth team processes these complaints and keeps track of the actions taken.

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has earned the membership of the Smart Water Networks Forum, a globally renowned non-profit body dedicated to advancing digital and data driven water management systems. The Bangalore Water Board known in short as BWSSB is the first body from India to get the membership of the International Forum also known as SWAN. By joining SWAN, the Bengaluru Water Board or BWSSB will gain access to cutting edge global best practices, research collaborations and smart water technologies apart from reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation under the Utility of the Future 2026 vision. The Chairman of BWSSB, Dr Ram Prasath Manohar has described the membership as a new chapter for Bengaluru’s water story. He informed that smart metering, real time monitoring, wastewater reuse and citizen engagement exercises initiated by the Board align with SWAN’s mission to leverage data for a sustainable water future.

The Telangana cabinet has given its approval for repealing the two-child restriction for contesting Telangana local body elections. Though the decision was taken during the previous cabinet meeting, it approved amending Section 21 (3) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act of 2018, thereby enabling those having more than 2 children to contest the elections. Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting held in Hyderabad last evening, Revenue Minister P Srinivas Reddy said the state government will be bringing an ordinance to make the amendment, which will be sent to the Governor for approval. He said the decision on conducting the local body elections will be taken after the High Court’s direction during the hearing on 42 percent reservations for the Backward Classes (BC) scheduled for 3rd of next month.

छठ पर्व के अवसर पर अपने-अपने गृह नगरों की ओर जाने वाले यात्रियों की भीड़ को देखते हुए उत्तर रेलवे ने दिल्ली क्षेत्र के प्रमुख स्टेशनों पर व्यापक व्यवस्था की है। यात्रियों की सुरक्षा और स्वास्थ्य के लिए भी दिल्ली मण्डल के चिकित्सीय विभाग ने विशेष कदम उठाये हैं। एक रिपोर्ट-
नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन पर एक स्थायी होल्डिंग एरिया बनाया गया है। इसके अलावा आनंद विहार टर्मिनल स्टेशन पर भी एक अस्थायी होल्डिंग एरिया स्थापित किया गया है। इन होल्डिंग क्षेत्रों में यूटीएस टिकट काउंटर, शौचालय, स्वचालित टिकट वेंडिंग मशीन, खान-पान स्टॉल, पूछ-ताछ केन्द्र और पीए सिस्टम की व्यवस्था मौजूद है। नई दिल्ली, पुरानी दिल्ली, आनंद विहार टर्मिनल, हजरत निजामुद्दीन, शकूर बस्ती और गाजियाबाद स्टेशनों पर प्राथमिक उपचार केन्द्र स्थापित किए गए हैं। इनमें एंबुलेंस और प्रशिक्षित मेडिकल टीमें 24 घंटे उपलब्ध हैं। उत्तर रेलवे के अनुसार इस सेवा के माध्यम से 16 से 21 अक्तूबर के बीच 634 से अधिक यात्रियों को चिकित्सा सुविधाएं दी गई है।

मौसम विभाग ने आज मुंबई और उसके पड़ोसी जिलों पालघर, ठाणे, रायगढ़, रत्नागिरी, सिंधुदुर्ग और पुणे के लिए येलो अलर्ट जारी किया है। विदर्भ क्षेत्र को छोड़कर पूरे राज्य में अगले कुछ दिनों तक गरज के साथ बारिश के लिए येलो अलर्ट जारी किया गया है। विभाग ने मौसम की इस स्थिति के लिए चक्रवाती हवाओं के प्रवाह को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है, जिससे अधिक नमी आ रही है।

मुंबई के जोगेश्वरी इलाके में जेएनएस बिज़नेस सेंटर में कल भीषण आग लगने के बाद 27 लोगों को बचा लिया गया। मुंबई फायर ब्रिगेड के अनुसार, इस घटना में धुएँ के कारण 17 लोग घायल हो गए।

कोलकाता नगर विकास प्राधिकरण (केएमडीए) ने आगामी छठ पूजा के लिए किसी भी धार्मिक अनुष्ठान हेतु कोलकाता शहर की दो झीलों, रवींद्र सरोबर और सुभाष सरोबर को बंद करने का निर्णय लिया है। यह निर्णय राष्ट्रीय हरित अधिकरण (एनजीटी) के एक फैसले के अनुरूप लिया गया है। कोलकाता में छठ पूजा के लिए 39 घाट तैयार किए गए हैं। केएमडीए को छठ पूजा से संबंधित अनुष्ठानों के पाँच घंटे बाद सभी घाटों की सफाई करने का आदेश दिया गया है।

आज का इतिहास मशहूर कार्टूनिस्ट आर. के लक्ष्मण (Famous cartoonist R. K Laxman) से जुड़ा हुआ है. 24 अक्टूबर 1921 को रासीपुरम कृष्णस्वामी लक्ष्मण यानी आर के लक्ष्मण का जन्म हुआ था. पत्रकारिता जगत में लक्ष्मण को राजनितिक और सामाजिक कार्टूनिस्ट के रूप में देखा जाता है. उनके कार्टून नेताओं पर तीखा प्रहार तो आम आदमी की समस्या को उकेरने का काम किया करते थें. उनका सबसे चर्चित कार्टून किरदार ‘कॉमन मैन’ था.
अपने कार्टूनों के ज़रिए आर. के. लक्ष्मण ने एक आम आदमी को एक व्यापक स्थान दिया और उसके जीवन की मायूसी, अँधेरे, उजाले, ख़ुशी और ग़म को शब्दों और रेखाओं की मदद से समाज के सामने रखा। उनकी आत्मकथा ‘टनल टु टाइम’ उनकी लेखन क्षमता का प्रमाण सामने लाती है। इसके अलावा उनकी साहित्यिक रचनाओं में प्रमुख पुस्तकें

R. K. Laxman started his career as a part-time cartoonist, working mostly for local newspapers and magazines. While as a college student, he illustrated his older brother R. K. Narayan’s stories in The Hindu.[4] His first full-time job was as a political cartoonist for The Free Press Journal in Mumbai. कैप्टन लक्ष्मी सहगल (अंग्रेज़ी: Lakshmi Sahgal, जन्म: 24 अक्टूबर, 1914, मद्रास (अब चेन्नई); मृत्यु: 23 जुलाई, 2012 कानपुर) महान् स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और आज़ाद हिन्द फ़ौज की अधिकारी थीं। वे आज़ाद हिन्द सरकार में महिला मामलों की मंत्री रहीं। सुभाष चंद्र बोस के साथ कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर सेना में रहते हुए लक्ष्मी सहगल ने कई सराहनीय काम किये। उनको बेहद मुश्किल जिम्मेदारी सौंपी गई थी। उनके कंधों पर जिम्मेदारी थी फौज में महिलाओं को भर्ती होने के लिए प्रेरणा देना और उन्हें फौज में भर्ती कराना। लक्ष्मी सहगल ने इस जिम्मेदारी को बखूबी अंजाम तक पहुंचाया। जिस जमाने में औरतों का घर से निकालना भी जुर्म समझा जाता था, उस समय उन्होंने 500 महिलाओं की एक फ़ौज तैयार की, जो एशिया मे अपने तरह की पहली विंग थी।

2017 – गिरिजा देवी – प्रसिद्ध ठुमरी गायिका थीं। गिरिजा देवी (अंग्रेज़ी: Girija Devi; जन्म: 8 मई, 1929, वाराणसी, उत्तर प्रदेश – मृत्यु: 24 अक्टूबर, 2017 कोलकाता, पश्चिम बंगाल) भारत की प्रसिद्ध ठुमरी गायिका हैं। उन्हें ‘ठुमरी की रानी’ कहा जाता है। वे बनारस घराने से सम्बन्धित हैं। गायकी के क्षेत्र में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए उन्हें वर्ष 1972 में ‘पद्मश्री’ और वर्ष 1989 में ‘पद्मभूषण’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। गिरिजा देवी ‘संगीत नाटक अकादमी’ द्वारा भी सम्मानित की जा चुकी हैं। गिरिजा देवी: कठिन राग को भी सरल बना देती थीं. उन्हें ठुमरी की रानी कहा जाता था। कलाकार बताते हैं वे जब भी ठुमरी गाती तो दर्शक उसे दोबारा पेश करने की सिफारिश करते थे।

Prabodh Chandra Dey (/ˈmænə ˈdeɪ/ ⓘ; 1 May 1919 − 24 October 2013), known professionally as Manna Dey, was an Indian playback singer, music director, and musician. With a strong foundation in classical music, he is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and celebrated vocalists in the Hindi film industry. He is also credited with bringing Indian classical music into mainstream Hindi cinema. Dey was especially acclaimed for blending classical music elements with popular compositions, a style that played a significant role during the golden era of Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Dey recorded about 3,047 songs.
While most were in Bengali and Hindi, he also sang in 14 other Indian languages, including Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Chhattisgarhi. His peak popularity was during the mid-1950s to the 1970s. For his contribution to Indian music, Dey received numerous honours. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007. He belonged to the Bhendibazaar gharana and trained under Ustad Aman Ali Khan.
