The World Bank has raised India’s growth forecast to 6.5 per cent for financial year 2026 from its earlier projection of 6.3 per cent in June, citing resilient domestic demand, strong rural recovery and the positive impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms. In its latest South Asia Development Update, the World Bank said that India is expected to remain the world’s fastest-growing major economy, underpinned by strong consumption growth. However it downgraded the country’s growth forecast to 6.3 per cent for financial year 2027 on back of the 50 per cent tariff imposed by the US.
The World Bank has forecast growth in South Asia to be robust at 6.6 per cent this year, however projected it to slow to 5.8 per cent in 2026, a downward revision of 0.6 percentage points from the April forecast. It added that region’s prospects faced heightened downside risks from an uncertain global environment, socio-political unrest, and labour market disruptions posed by emerging technology such as artificial intelligence (AI).

The Centre for responsible AI at IIT Madras launched IndiCASA yesterday. This is a dataset that will be useful for bias risk detection and assessment in language models within the Indian context.
Prof. B.Ravindran, Head of the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI , IIT Madras said that it offers around 2,500 human validated sentences designed to include stereotypes and their anti stereotypical counterparts across caste, gender, religion, disability and socio economic status.
Among other initiatives, the centre also launched an AI evaluation tool that provides a unified and automated framework to evaluate conversational AI systems in a consistent, transparent and scalable way. He added that at present, there are no tools to evaluate AI systems deployed in the country. This tool connects directly with conversational AI agents to simulate human interaction.

The Karnataka Government yesterday extended the midterm holidays for government and aided schools till October 18 to facilitate completion of the ongoing Socio-economic and Educational Survey by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.
The decision taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, comes as no district has achieved 100 percent completion of the door-to-door enumeration that began on September 22.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Karnataka State Primary School Teachers’ Association had sought more time to finish the survey.
While Koppal has recorded 97 percent progress, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are lagging at 63 percent and 60 percent, respectively. The Chief Minister said- “Survey work across the state has not met expectations” .

The newly built Bengaluru–Chennai access-controlled highway is set to get its first rest and recreation centre for motorists.
The foundation stone for the facility was laid on Monday at Iythandahalli near Bangarpet, close to Kolar Gold Fields . Spread across 30 acres, the project—awarded to YSPACE—will feature food courts, fuel stations, drive-through restaurants, a factory outlet mall, a mega play zone for children, a motel, and handicraft stalls.
A key highlight of the centre will be a 144.9-foot-tall Hanuman statue planned at the site.

Telangana state has launched its dedicated Tourism Police units, marking a significant step toward enhancing tourist safety and experience. A week-long induction program for the first batch of 80 personnel commenced at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) in Hyderabad.
Organised by the Department of Tourism, the Orientation and Sensitisation of Tourist Police programme aimed at building capacity, strengthening visitor facilitation, and improving the overall tourism ecosystem in the state.
Addressing the participants, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), Mahesh Bhagwat said the initiative reflects a joint effort between the Police Department and the Tourism and Culture Department to ensure safety and hospitality across key destinations.
Director, NITHM, Professor Venkata Ramana underscored the state’s focus on projecting Telangana’s positive image globally through skilled, visitor-friendly personnel.
The 80 Tourism Police will be deployed across nine Police Commissionerates at major places of tourism attractions (including Somasila, Ananthagiri, Ramappa, Yadagirigutta, Pochampally, Buddhavanam, Bhadrachalam, and Hyderabad).

दिल्ली के उपराज्यपाल विनय कुमार सक्सेना ने दिल्ली विकास प्राधिकरण-डीडीए से त्यौहारी सीजन के दौरान द्वारका गोल्फ कोर्स में खिलाडि़यों को दी जाने वाली सदस्यता पर 40 प्रतिशत तक की छूट देने को कहा है। डीडीए ने बताया कि यह छूट पहले आओ, पहले पाओ के आधार पर पहले 1000 सदस्यताओं के लिए मान्य होगी।

महाराष्ट्र श्रम विभाग ने मंगलवार को एक नई वेबसाइट labour.maharashtra.gov.in लॉन्च की, जो कारखाना मालिकों और श्रमिकों, दोनों के लिए उपयोगी जानकारी का मंच उपलब्ध कराएगी। श्रम मंत्री एड. आकाश फुंडकर ने वेबसाइट का उद्घाटन किया और विभाग के नए चैटबॉट, ‘श्रमदूत’ का परिचय दिया, जो उपयोगकर्ताओं को तत्काल मार्गदर्शन और सहायता प्रदान करेगा। श्री फुंडकर ने इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि वेबसाइट श्रमिकों, आम जनता और दिव्यांगजनों के लिए उपयोग में आसान होगी। इस परियोजना को विभाग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के विशेष प्रयासों से विकसित किया गया है।

सिंधुदुर्ग किलों को विरासत का दर्जा
महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने सिंधुदुर्ग जिले की ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों के संरक्षण के लिए बड़े कदम उठाए हैं। मंगलवार को मुंबई स्थित राज्य सचिवालय में एक बैठक के दौरान, सांस्कृतिक मामलों के मंत्री एडवोकेट आशीष शेलार ने घोषणा की कि मालवण तालुका स्थित नंदोश किले का जल्द ही वैज्ञानिक उत्खनन किया जाएगा और रामगढ़ किले को राज्य संरक्षित स्मारक घोषित किया जाएगा। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि संरक्षण योजना तैयार करने के लिए पुरातत्व विभाग सिद्धेश्वर मंदिर क्षेत्र सहित भगवानगढ़ किले का सर्वेक्षण करेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस और उपमुख्यमंत्रियों के मार्गदर्शन में कोंकण क्षेत्र के लिए एक विकास योजना पर काम चल रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि तीनों विरासत परियोजनाओं को स्थानीय ग्राम पंचायतों, जिला सदस्यों और भूस्वामियों के सहयोग से क्रियान्वित किया जाएगा।

महाराष्ट्र के परिवहन मंत्री प्रताप सरनाईक ने मंगलवार को घोषणा की कि ऐप-आधारित टैक्सी, रिक्शा और ई-बाइक सेवाओं के लिए नीति और नियम अगले दो दिनों के भीतर जारी किए जाएंगे। मुंबई में राज्य सचिवालय में आयोजित इंडियन फेडरेशन ऑफ ऐप-बेस्ड ट्रांसपोर्ट वर्कर्स (आईएफएटी) की बैठक में श्री सरनाईक ने कहा कि नई नीति का उद्देश्य यात्रियों और ड्राइवरों के सामने आने वाली समस्याओं का समाधान करना है।

आज पुण्यतिथि है केदार नाथ साहू की, जो भारत के प्रसिद्ध लोक नृत्य कलाकार थे। 1921 में झारखंड के सरायकेला में जन्मे केदार नाथ साहू बचपन से ही सरायकेला छऊ नृत्य की दुनिया में प्रवेश कर चुके थे। यह नृत्य, जो जनजातीय परंपरा से निकला, उनके हाथों में वैश्विक कला बन गया। सरायकेला छऊ के अग्रणी नर्तक केदार नाथ साहू को 2005 में पद्म श्री सम्मान मिला था। छऊ नृत्य के लिए पद्म सम्मान पाने वाले वे दूसरे व्यक्ति थे। अपने कैरियर की शुरुआत में बिजय प्रताप सिंहदेव के नेतृत्व में भारत के अलावा पूर्वी यूरोप, दक्षिण अमरीका तथा दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया में छऊ नृत्य का प्रदर्शन किया। केदार नाथ साहू ने सरायकेला स्थित राजकीय छऊ नृत्य कला केंद्र में 1974 (चौहत्तर) से 1988 (अट्ठासी) तक प्रशिक्षण दिया, जहां उन्होंने नई पीढ़ी को नृत्य की बारीकियां सिखाईं। सन् 1981 (इक्यासी) में केदार नाथ साहू को संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार भी मिला। आज भी सरायकेला के मंचों पर छऊ नृत्य की थाप बजने पर केदार नाथ साहू की यादें ताजा हो जाती है।

स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में कमलापति त्रिपाठी ने कोई कसर न छोड़ी। 1921 के असहयोग आंदोलन से उनका आगाज हुआ, और 1942 के भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन में उन्होंने सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई। वे कई बार जेल गए, लेकिन कभी हार न मानी। यह संघर्ष ही था जिसने उन्हें संविधान सभा का सदस्य बनाया, जहां वे हिंदी अनुवाद समिति के भी हिस्सा बने। 1937 में वे पहली बार उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा पहुंचे, और फिर 1969 तक लगातार चुने गए। आखिरकार, 4 अप्रैल 1971 को वे उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में नियुक्त हुए। साहित्य में भी उनका योगदान उल्लेखनीय रहा 1947 (सैंतालीस) 1948 (अड़तालीस) में हिंदी साहित्य सम्मेलन के सभापति बने।
