External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a two-day visit to China beginning today. He will attend Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin city tomorrow.
The Foreign Ministers will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues. The SCO grouping comprises 10 member states – India, China, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. China is the current chair of the SCO and is hosting the meetings of the grouping in that capacity. Dr Jaishankar will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Dr Jaishankar is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during his visit to China. The two leaders are expected to take forward discussions to normalise bilateral relations and address the long-standing border dispute between India and China. The two countries are currently engaged in the delicate task of normalising their ties after agreeing in October last year to end the face-off in Ladakh. It will be Dr Jaishankar’s first visit to China after the ties between the two countries came under strain following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Three top leaders of banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) have been killed in Myanmar. The banned group, headed by Paresh Baruah, claimed that its eastern headquarters in Myanmar was targeted by Indian Army with drones in the early hours yesterday. According to a statement by insurgent group, a total of 19 cadres have been killed and another 19 injured. However, Indian Army has categorically denied any such operation. Defence PRO Colonel MS Rawat said in Guwahati that there are no inputs with the Indian Army on such an operation.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has appealed to External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to take appropriate diplomatic steps to secure the release of the fishermen and their fishing vessels apprehended by the Srilakan authorities. In a letter to the Minister, he said that seven fishermen along with their mechanised fishing boat were taken into custody. Another mechanised boat is reported to have been stuck by a Srilankan naval vessel causing significant damage to its stern. He added these recurring incidents are deeply alarming.

Addressing media persons in Bengaluru yesterday, he said a few farmers are staging protests against land acquisition and there are also some farmers ready for acquisition at 3.5 crore rupees per acre. DEATH
Today we remembring Swami Sivananda Saraswati, also called Swami Sivananda, was a yoga guru, a Hindu spiritual teacher, and a proponent of Vedanta. Sivananda was born in Pattamadai, in the Tirunelveli district of modern Tamil Nadu, and was named Kuppuswami. He studied medicine and served in British Malaya as a physician for several years before taking up monasticism.
He was the founder of the Divine Life Society (DLS) in 1936, Yoga-Vedanta Forest Academy (1948) and the author of over 200 books on yoga, Vedanta, and a variety of subjects. He established Sivananda Ashram, the headquarters of the DLS, on the bank of the Ganges at Muni Ki Reti, 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Rishikesh, and lived most of his life there.
Sivananda Yoga, the yoga form propagated by his disciple Vishnudevananda, is now spread in many parts of the world through Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.

आज हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के एक प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार मदन मोहन की पुण्यतिथि है।अपनी गजलों के लिए प्रसिद्ध इस संगीतकार का पूरा नाम ‘मदन मोहन कोहली’ था। अपनी युवावस्था में वे एक सैनिक थे। बाद में संगीत के प्रति अपने झुकाव के कारण ऑल इंडिया रेडियो से जुड़ गए। आकाशवाणी में उनकी मुलाकात संगीत जगत् से जुडे़ उस्ताद फ़ैयाज़ ख़ाँ, उस्ताद अली अकबर ख़ाँ, बेगम अख़्तर और तलत महमूद जैसी जानी मानी हस्तियों से हुई। बतौर संगीतकार वर्ष 1950 में प्रदर्शित फ़िल्म आँखें के ज़रिये मदन मोहन फ़िल्म इंडस्ट्री में अपनी पहचान बनाने में सफल हुए।
मदन मोहन ने अपने ढ़ाई दशक लंबे सिने कैरियर में लगभग 100 फ़िल्मों के लिये संगीत दिया। मदन मोहन के संगीत निर्देशन में राजा मेंहदी अली खान रचित गीतों में ‘आपकी नजरों ने समझा प्यार के काबिल मुझे’, ‘लग जा गले जैसे गीत श्रोताओं के बीच आज भी लोकप्रिय है उन्हें फिल्म दस्तक के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ संगीतकार के राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया।

आज प्रसिद्ध राष्ट्र भक्त, स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और पत्रकार देशबंधु गुप्त की जयंती है। अपने विद्यार्थी जीवन में ही देशबंधु गुप्त राष्ट्रीय आन्दोलन में कूद पड़े थे। उनसे प्रभावित होकर ही लाला लाजपत राय ने उन्हें अपने साथ ले लिया था। गुप्त जी में संगठन करने की बड़ी क्षमता थी। वर्ष 1942 में ‘भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन’ के दौरान इन्हें गिरफ़्तार किया गया और फिर 1945 में ही ये जेल से बाहर आ सके। एक पत्रकार के रूप में भी देशबंधु गुप्त जाने जाते थे। स्वामी श्रद्धानन्द ने इन्हें राष्ट्रीय पत्र ‘तेज’ का सम्पादक नियुक्त किया था। 1948 में ‘अखिल भारतीय समाचार पत्र सम्पादक सम्मेलन’ के अध्यक्ष भी आप चुने गए थे। गुप्त जी हमेशा ‘जाति प्रथा’ का विरोध करते रहे।
