PUDUCHERRY
The Manifest Dance-Film Festival, celebrating the artistic fusion of dance, movement and cinema, is underway at Vision Vivekanand Studio on Old Auroville Road near Puducherry. The second day of the three-day festival features a packed schedule of workshops, international film screenings, discussions and live performances. More from our correspondent:
The day began with “Ripple Effect – An Embodied Movement Practice,” a contemporary movement workshop conducted by Mumbai-based dancer and educator Melitta D’Souza. This was followed by a Waacking Techniques workshop led by Kolkata-based artist Sangram M, and “Movement as Ritual,” a session conducted by classical dancer and arts-based therapist Mrinmoyee Majumdar. A panel discussion later explored various aspects of dance-film practice and screen choreography.
The evening programme features two curated packages of international short dance-films. The first, “Edge of Reason,” brings together films from Spain, Canada, United States, Finland and Netherlands. The films explore themes ranging from human relationships and environmental concerns to climate grief and emotional resilience.
The second package, “Persistence,” showcases films from Nigeria, United States, Germany, Brazil and the United Kingdom, exploring identity, memory, family, womanhood and belonging through movement-based storytelling.
The festival’s live performance segment presents a double bill featuring Melitta D’Souza’s “Ripple Effect” and Sangram M’s “Empress Queen vs Khairati 2026.” The day’s events will wrap up with “Under the Stars,” an open-air screening of international dance-films from the United States, Mexico, Poland, Finland and Hong Kong. The Festival will conclude tomorrow.

Organ Retrieval Banking Organization of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi today felicitated 38 organ, tissue and whole body donor families in New Delhi. ORBO organized the Organ Donation Fortnight from 14th of previous month till today under the theme Angdaan Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyaan. A report:
The event aimed at nurturing students as future ambassadors who will carry the message of organ and tissue donation as well as help dispel prevailing myths, participate in awareness-building activities, foster a spirit of collective participation, and further strengthens the cause of organ and tissue donation. It featured a training programme for doctors and school competitions. Director of AIIMS New Delhi, Prof. Nikhil Tandon said that that every year, organ and tissue donation gives a new lease on life to patients with end-stage organ failure. He described the decision of donor families to give amid personal grief as a noble deed that grants new life to many and stands as an enduring testament to human compassion. Talking to Akashvani News, Prof. Tandon also highlighted that when a family loses their loved one, taking a decision in that moment of grief and sorrow to save someone else’s life is beyond comparison. At the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Indian boxer Jasmine Lamboria today clinched the gold medal in women’s 57kg weight division. Jasmine defeated defending champion Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland 5-nil to bag the yellow metal. This marks the second gold for India in the Boxing event at the Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, another Indian boxer Preeti Pawar won a Gold in the Women’s 54kg category. The reigning Asian Champion defeated Scarlett Delgado of Canada 5-nil in the final clash to win India’s first Gold metal in the Boxing event at CWG 2026.
India will have multiple medal opportunities today, with boxing taking centre stage, led by Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, compete in their respective finals. Indian boxers have marked India’s best-ever boxing performance at the Commonwealth Games.

Nirad C. Chaudhuri (1897–1999) was a distinguished Bengali-English writer and cultural commentator, born in Kishoreganj, British India (now Bangladesh). A prolific author, he is best known for works like The Autobiography of an Unknown Indian and The Continent of Circe: An Essay on the Peoples of India. For The Continent of Circe, he was awarded the prestigious Duff Cooper Memorial Award in 1966/1967, making him the first and only Indian recipient.
