India has emerged as the third-largest exporter of arms to Europe, driven by rising demand for defence equipment under the European Union’s ‘ReArm Europe’ initiative and the expansion of the country’s domestic manufacturing sector. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh made the remarks while talking to media persons yesterday. He said India’s defence exports have reached an all-time high of 38 thousand 424 crore rupees, equivalent to around 3.6 billion euros. He said the increase in exports to Europe was largely driven by the growing demand for standard ammunition, artillery shells and other large- and small-calibre ammunition.

The External Affairs Ministry said, Indian missions in France, Italy and Belgium are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular contact with members of the Indian community to ensure their safety and well-being.
The advisory comes amid large-scale demonstrations across parts of Europe, reportedly fuelled in part by the rising cost of living. Protests in France last week turned violent, with incidents of arson and vandalism reported in several areas.

The Union Home Ministry will launch a first-of-its-kind pilot initiative to strengthen civil defence preparedness by providing specialised training to Civil Defence Master Trainers through the Indian Army. The training will be conducted by the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, with the aim of establishing a robust civil defence network across the country.
The Ministry said the three-day training programme will be conducted in 12 States and Union Territories in the first phase. These include Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Keralam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The initiative aims to enhance the ability of civil defence personnel to respond effectively to emerging security threats, hostile situations and emergencies.

The School education department has directed schools and Chief education Officers to inspect roofs, parapet walls and sun shades for leaks , cordon off unsafe buildings and ensure the structural stability of overhead water tanks. The School education department said in a circular that heads of all schools must take stock of unused, severely damaged and old buildings requiring demolition within their campuses and coordinate with local bodies.

The Tamilnadu Government has reduced the value added tax on aviation turbine fuel supplied to scheduled airlines for intra state flight operations, aiming to lower airfares for business travellers and encourage airlines to expand their services within the State. The Government has also reduced VAT on avaition turbine fuel from 5 percent to 1 percent for scheduled airlines operating aircraft with a maximum take off mass of less than 40 thousand kg and fuelling at airports in the State excluding Chennai. The reduction notified through a Government order issued will come into effect on November 1.

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar will flag off luxury train ‘Golden Chariot’ today in Bengaluru. This is the first trip of the year after the train underwent upgrades. It has now two new suites, a kitchen with combi oven and high capacity induction system, a better RO water purification system, apart from other enhanced features. The first trip of five nights and six days named Pride of Karnataka will take the guests to wildlife sanctuaries, world Heritage site, coffee plantations and coastal Karnataka. A total of 13 luxury journeys and three Jewels of South tours are planned in this calendar year.

South Indian states have decided to set up a joint secretariat to share information on criminals and to coordinate action against crime across state borders. The decision was taken at the Southern States Police Coordination Meeting, held at Integrated Command and Control Centre in Hyderabad. Each state will appoint a nodal officer, and the officers will meet regularly to plan joint action.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Inaugurated the meeting. He said Telangana is ready to share its technical infrastructure and its command and control system with neighbouring states. DGPs, IGs and officials of central agencies from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry and Lakshadweep took part. They discussed terrorism, drugs, cyber crime, human trafficking and the use of AI in policing.

सबसे पहले हम बात करेंगे उस स्वतंत्रता सेनानी के बारे में, जिसने सत्ता को पद नहीं, बल्कि जनता की सेवा का माध्यम माना। रफ़ी अहमद क़िदवई स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और कुशल राजनीतिज्ञ थे। आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है। महात्मा गांधी के असहयोग आंदोलन और खिलाफत आंदोलन में भाग लेते हुए उन्होंने कई बार जेल की यातना सही।
आज़ादी के बाद उन्होंने देश के पहले केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल में संचार मंत्री के रूप में कार्य किया। किसानों और गरीबों के हितों के लिए आवाज़ उठाना उनकी राजनीति की प्रमुख पहचान थी। वर्ष 1950 में उनके प्रयासों से देश में वन महोत्सव की शुरुआत भी हुई, जिसका उद्देश्य वनों के संरक्षण के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाना था। उनकी पहचान किसी साहित्यिक या कलात्मक पुरस्कार से नहीं, बल्कि स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन, जनसेवा और प्रशासनिक योगदान से बनी।

आज पुण्यतिथि है इस्मत चुग़ताई की। समाज जिन मुद्दों पर चुप्पी साध लेता था, इस्मत चुग़ताई ने उन्हीं मुद्दों को अपनी कहानियों का विषय बनाया। इस्मत चुग़ताई उर्दू साहित्य की उन बेबाक लेखिकाओं में शामिल थीं, जिन्होंने महिलाओं की इच्छाओं, सामाजिक असमानताओं और मध्य-वर्गीय समाज की रूढ़ियों को खुलकर लिखा। उनकी भाषा सहज, प्रभावशाली और व्यंग्य से भरपूर थी। उनकी सबसे चर्चित कहानियों में ‘लिहाफ़’ शामिल है, जिसने अपने समय में महिला जीवन और कामुकता से जुड़े सवालों पर व्यापक बहस छेड़ी। उनके प्रमुख साहित्यिक कार्यों में उपन्यास ‘टेढ़ी लकीर’, ‘दिल की दुनिया’ और ‘चुईमुई’ भी शामिल हैं। साहित्य में उनके योगदान के लिए भारत सरकार ने उन्हें 1976 में पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया। उनकी रचनाएँ आज भी समाज में स्त्री की स्वतंत्रता और समानता से जुड़े सवालों को समझने का अवसर देती हैं।
Her short story Lihaaf, published in 1942, caused such controversy that she was prosecuted on charges of obscenity. She defended her work and was acquitted. The story is remarkable for how it explores a neglected woman’s hidden desires through the seemingly innocent image of a quilt moving in the night.
Garm Hawa (1973). Chughtai co-wrote the screenplay with Kaifi Azmi. The film, starring Balraj Sahni, explores the trauma of Partition and the predicament of a Muslim family choosing whether to remain in India. It is an excellent example of her contribution to socially conscious cinema.

2013—Manna Dey, born Prabodh Chandra Dey in Kolkata, was one of the most versatile playback singers in Indian cinema. Trained in Hindustani classical music under distinguished musicians, including his uncle Krishna Chandra Dey, he brought remarkable musical sophistication to Hindi and Bengali film songs. His extraordinary range allowed him to sing everything from classical compositions and romantic duets to qawwalis, philosophical songs and comic numbers. Some of his unforgettable songs include Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Ae Mere Pyare Watan, Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli and Ek Chatur Naar. Honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Manna Dey remains a legend of Indian music.
Manna Dey was an accomplished sports enthusiast in his younger days, with interests including wrestling and boxing.

गिरिजा देवी हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत की दिग्गज गायिका थीं। उन्हें प्यार से ‘ठुमरी की रानी’ कहा जाता था। बनारस घराने की परंपरा से जुड़ी गिरिजा देवी ने ठुमरी के साथ-साथ टप्पा, दादरा, चैती, कजरी और होरी जैसी शैलियों को भी लोकप्रिय बनाया।
संगीत के क्षेत्र में उनके योगदान के लिए उन्हें पद्मश्री (1972 बहत्तर), पद्म भूषण (1989 नवासी), संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार (1977), संगीत नाटक अकादमी फेलोशिप (2010) और पद्म विभूषण (2016) से सम्मानित किया गया। गिरिजा देवी की गायकी आज भी भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत की अमूल्य धरोहर है, आइये सुनते हैं उनकी आवाज़ में यह कजरी।

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Laxman was one of India’s most celebrated cartoonists and satirists. Best known for creating The Common Man, he captured the frustrations, hopes and everyday absurdities of ordinary Indians through his iconic cartoons in The Times of India. His famous cartoon strip, You Said It, offered witty observations on Indian politics and society for generations of readers. Interestingly, he was the younger brother of celebrated novelist R. K. Narayan, author of Malgudi Days. Laxman received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 1973 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2005. Laxman also created Gattu, the mischievous boy who became the iconic mascot of Asian Paints in 1954.
