BRTC Chandrapur becomes first institute to get AICTE approval for Bamboo Technology diploma

The Bamboo Research and Training Centre – BRTC at Chichpalli in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district has received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education – AICTE to launch a three-year Diploma in Bamboo Technology from the 2026-27 academic year.

With this approval, BRTC has become the first institution in India to secure AICTE recognition for a standalone diploma programme in Bamboo Technology. The course, affiliated with the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai, has been sanctioned an intake capacity of 60 students.

BRTC has been offering a state-recognised diploma course in Bamboo Technology since 2017. The AICTE approval now provides the programme with national-level accreditation, opening new avenues for technical education, employment and entrepreneurship in the bamboo sector. The curriculum will cover bamboo processing and treatment technologies, furniture manufacturing, bamboo construction techniques, handicrafts, nursery management, product design, entrepreneurship development and industrial training.

Students will gain hands-on experience through BRTC’s advanced workshops, treatment plants, machinery, research facilities and field-based training programmes. The recognition is expected to significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s bamboo industry, promote green technology, generate sustainable employment and support rural industrial development.
