The BRICS theatre festival will be held from 12th to 14th of next month in New Delhi. The three-day festival will be hosted by the National School of Drama (NSD). Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Secretary for the Ministry of Culture,Vivek Aggarwal, said that festival, centred on the theme Shared Stories, Shared Futures’ seeks to underline diverse theatrical traditions while highlighting shared human experiences and strengthening people-to-people connections.
The Secretary said that the festival builds on the Bhopal Declaration adopted at the BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting held last month, which emphasized greater cultural cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and stronger networks among artists and cultural practitioners. He informed that besides India, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, Vietnam, Iran, South Africa, Kazakhstan and Ethiopia will participate in this festival. Mr Aggarwal said that the festival will serves as a significant platform for artists and theatre practitioners from different countries of the Global South to come together exchange ideas and showcases their diverse cultural traditions. He said that more than 100 artists are expected to participate in the festival.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Director of the National School of Drama, Chittaranjan Tripathy said that the three-day festival will feature ten theatre groups presenting eleven plays. He said that performances will be staged at various venues in Delhi, including Abhimanch Auditorium at NSD, Sammukh Auditorium, Kamani Auditorium, LTG Auditorium and Meghdoot Theatre.
