In Jodhpur Municipal Corporation, both the BJP and Congress have won 44 seats each out of 100. Among the 47 municipal councils, the BJP got lead in 21, while the Congress is ahead in 17. Similarly, of the 252 municipalities, the BJP has won 144, while the Congress has secured victory in 92.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the people had expressed their confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the performance of the state government. He described the results as the people’s endorsement of the present state government’s two-and-a-half-year tenure.
Meanwhile, president of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee Govind Singh Dotasra said that despite the BJP putting in its full strength in the elections, it had failed to secure the mandate it had expected. Polling for the 309 urban local bodies were held in two phases on September 9 and 11.
The BJP Spokesperson further said that the Congress party’s policy of conducting elections in 8 phases and dividing Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations has been rejected by the people, whereas the BJP conducted the elections in one phase. He said that this victory demonstrates that the Congress party’s claims contain more propaganda and less reality.
