BJP today hit out at the Congress party for failing to act against its Member of Parliament, Bimol Akoijam, following his termination from Jawaharlal Nehru University over allegations of sexual misconduct.

 

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj raised questions over maintaining silence by the top leadership of congress on this issue. She demanded senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take strict disciplinary action against the party MP and suspend him immediately.

 

Ms SwaraJ noted that in May this year, eleven female students had filed complaints of sexual harassment against Bimol Akoijam. She stated that following an inquiry conducted under the Internal Committee constituted as per the POSH Act, JNU had immediately terminated Bimol Akoijam as Professor.
