The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared three candidates for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections scheduled on October 23. The polls will cover five seats from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies.
The BJP’s nominees are Smita Jadhav for the Pune Division Graduates’ constituency, Sudhakar Kohle for the Nagpur Division Graduates’ constituency, and Kaustubh Gawde for the Pune Division Teachers’ constituency.
The biennial elections are being conducted for five seats whose current members will retire on December 6, 2026.
The Indian National Congress has already named candidates for three constituencies: Abhijit Wanjari for the Nagpur Division Graduates’ constituency, Jayant Dinkar Asgaonkar for the Pune Division Teachers’ constituency, and Aditi Pohare for the Amravati Division Teachers’ constituency.
As per the Election Commission’s timeline for the Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial polls, polling across all five constituencies will be held on October 23, followed by the counting of votes on October 27. The entire election process is expected to conclude by October 31.
