BJP Mizoram president Dr K. Beichhua on Thursday described Samvidhan Hatya Diwas (Constitution Murder Day), observed to mark the anniversary of the Emergency, as a reminder of one of the darkest and most unfortunate periods in the history of Indian democracy. Speaking to Akashvani News during a commemorative programme organised by the BJP at its office in Mipui Run, Aizawl, Dr Beichhua said he hoped such an event would never recur in India. He stated that the BJP observes the day annually as a “Black Day” to remember what the party regards as an assault on democratic values.
