Bhutan’s NCHM issues public advisory following Glacial Lake Outburst Flood

Bhutan’s National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) has issued a public advisory today following the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) of October 29th.

The NCHM said an artificial lake has formed at Taktsemakhang, at the confluence of Sintaphu Chhu and Lungu Chhu/Gangchen Tag Chhu. People living along the Mochhu and Punatsangchhu river valleys have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid riverbanks and flood-prone areas, and take necessary precautions.

The advisory also said that the NCHM and concerned agencies are continuously monitoring the situation and that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
