Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay today wrote an article in a national daily, congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
In the article, Bhutanese Prime Minister described Prime Minister Modi as a trusted friend, elder brother, and mentor. He recalled meeting Mr Modi at his swearing-in ceremony on 26th May in 2014 and highlighted the significance of India choosing Bhutan as the destination for the Prime Minister’s first overseas visit. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s humility, work ethic, and commitment to public service, saying his leadership has transformed India through economic growth, technological advancement, infrastructure development, and a stronger global presence.
Prime Minister Tobgay also commended Prime Minister Modi’s advocacy for developing nations and the Global South. Mr Tobgay emphasised that India remains Bhutan’s closest friend and most trusted partner, noting that bilateral ties have deepened under Mr Modi’s leadership. He particularly acknowledged India’s support for the Gelephu Mindfulness City project. Extending congratulations on behalf of Bhutan’s King, government, and people, Bhutanese Prime Minister wished Mr Modi continued success in serving India and strengthening both nations’ friendship.
