In Cricket, the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba, in Brisbane ended in a dramatic draw as rain played spoilsport. India, batting in their second innings, were 8 for no loss when play was halted due to rains. The visitors needed 267 runs to win at the time, but the weather denied either side a decisive result.
Earlier on day five, India were all out for 260 in their first innings in response to Australia’s 445. Resuming at their overnight total of 252 for nine, India managed to add just eight runs on the morning of day five. Jasprit Bumrah, with an unbeaten 10, and Akash Deep, with a gutsy 31, put up a spirited fight on day four to help India narrowly avoid the follow-on. The duo forged a crucial 47-run stand for the final wicket. K L Rahul was the top scorer for India, with 84 runs while Ravindra Jadeja scored 77 runs. Australia’s Pat Cummins took 4 wickets, including those of Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, while Mitchell Starc claimed 3.
The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1. The fourth test match of the series will start on the 26th of this month in Melbourne.
