The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme will be implemented in West Bengal. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced it today at the Kanyaratna Diwas event in Kolkata, introducing a flurry of initiatives to promote girl child education from the primary to the higher education level.
Under the West Bengal government’s Kanyaratna scheme, a girl child will receive enhanced financial assistance of 2,000 rupees starting next year, up from the earlier 1,000 rupees.
For higher education after school, the one-time assistance will be increased to 50,000 rupees from 25,000 rupees. Mr. Adhikari also announced that students who score more than 60 per cent in their Higher Secondary examinations will receive a scholarship under the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship scheme.
