Bengal’s traditional folk industries to be promoted under Skill India Programme

Special initiatives will be undertaken under the Skill India Programme PM-SETU to promote Bengal’s traditional folk industries, including handloom and Dokra craft. Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship,  independent charge, Jayant Chaudhary said this at a programme in Kolkata today. He said traditional industrial hubs in the state would be given priority in developing a skilled workforce in line with industry requirements.

Replying to questions from journalists at the end of the ‘Kaushal Manthan’ regional conference in Kolkata, he said West Bengal had joined the PM-SETU project only two months ago, but the state would not lag behind. He said ITIs would be developed in such a way that students could be trained using the same equipment and machinery used in industries, thereby building confidence among major industrial groups in these institutions. The initiative would particularly focus on Bengal’s traditional industrial hubs.
