Benchmark equity indices kick off FY2024-25 on a strong note

Benchmark equity indices kicked off the financial year 2024-25 on a strong note, as the Sensex and Nifty both touched fresh highs in intra-day trade today.

The Sensex gained 363 points, or half a percent, to close at 74,015. The BSE Sensex soared to a fresh record high of 74,255 in intra-day trade.

The NSE Nifty climbed 135 points, or 0.60 percent, to settle at 22,462. During the day, it touched all-time peak of 22,530. From the Sensex basket, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank were the major gainers.

Titan, Nestle, Bharti Airtel and IndusInd Bank were among the laggards.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index gained 1.64 percent while the Small-cap index rose three percent.

In sectoral indices at the BSE, the Realty sector zoomed 4.18 percent, Telecommunication index jumped 3.44 percent and the Metal sector surged 3.39 percent. While Auto and Consumer Durables sectors ended in the red.
