In football, Belgium defeated the United States 4-1 in the Round of 16 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Seattle.
Belgium took control of the match with early goals from Charles De Ketelaere and Hans Vanaken before Romelu Lukaku sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal. Malik Tillman scored the lone goal for the United States in the first half.
Belgium will now face Spain in the quarter-finals at Los Angeles Stadium on Friday.
Earlier, Spain advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Portugal 1-0 in their Round of 16 match at Dallas Stadium last night. Mikel Merino scored the winning goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.
Following Portugal’s exit, Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he will not return for the next FIFA World Cup. Spain have reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since winning their only title in South Africa in 2010.
In another Round of 16 match today, defending champions Argentina will take on Egypt in Atlanta. The match will begin at 9:30 p.m. IST.
