In Bangladesh, 44 people have died in floods and landslides across the country over the past week. Several casualties were caused by landslides, while most others either drowned or were washed away due to floods and overflowing rivers. The country’s Disaster Management Ministry spokesman said that around 267,000 families have been affected due to the flood. Heavy overnight rainfall flooded parts of the capital, Dhaka, disrupting normal life as the Army, Navy, and Air Force joined relief operations in the seven worst-hit districts along with local humanitarian agencies. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) warned that worsening river levels could trigger further flooding in several north and north-western districts, while the situation in the northeastern and northwestern region could deteriorate further.
