Bangladesh marked the 12th International Day of Yoga with a grand celebration in Dhaka, organised by the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) under the High Commission of India in Bangladesh. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being throughout life.
The main event was held at Basundhara Sports City in Dhaka, where hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gathered to participate in the Common Yoga Protocol session led by yoga teachers and students of the IGCC.
Eight prominent yoga organisations, including Art of Living Bangladesh, Evergreen Yoga, Hu Art of Yoga, Joysun Yoga, Notre Dame Yoga and Meditation Club, and Self Healing Hub, joined the celebrations, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga in Bangladesh.
The event was attended by eminent personalities, celebrities from various fields, and other dignitaries. Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts participated in large numbers, demonstrating the widespread appeal of the ancient practice.
Besides Dhaka, International Day of Yoga programmes and related events were organised at the Assistant High Commissions of India in Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Chattogram.
The celebrations in Bangladesh began more than three weeks before June 21, with several yoga organisations conducting large and small events across the country in the run-up to the main observance, underscoring the increasing enthusiasm for yoga among the Bangladeshi public.
