Pakistani military operations in Balochistan’s Quetta district have forced around 300 Mashwani tribal families to flee their ancestral homes, leaving the displaced people struggling to find food and shelter amid rain and cold weather. The families reportedly fled to Killi Muhammad Khail in Panjpai, southwest of Quetta, after several days of heightened tensions and military activity in the area. According to local media reports, shelling by Pakistani forces and the use of heavy weaponry damaged several houses, compelling residents to flee their homes. The reports said the displaced families include women, children and elderly people, who are facing severe hardships following their displacement.
Condemning the forced displacement, the Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party said authorities should focus on ensuring residents’ safety rather than forcing them to leave their ancestral areas in the aftermath of attacks. The party also urged the authorities to provide affected families with essential assistance, including food, shelter and healthcare, while ensuring conditions for their safe and dignified return to their homes.
