The Bairabi-Sairang railway line in Mizoram has completed one year today. The railway line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this day last year. The Ministry of Railways said that within one year, this railway line has brought transformative development in the hill state.

The Ministry added that it has also improved mobility, provided greater access to markets, enhanced tourism and created new opportunities for the people of Mizoram. Three important long-distance train services now connect the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl, with the cities of Guwahati, Kolkata and Delhi.

The Sairang – Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express gave Mizoram its first direct premium railway connection with the National Capital. Similarly, the Guwahati and Kolkata services created dependable links with major educational, commercial and medical centres across the eastern and northern parts of the country.

The Sairang railway station in Mizoram, which was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister last year, has catered to more than five lakh passenger movements.

The Railways Ministry said that the railway station has not only emerged as a vital hub for passenger travel but also as an integral part of community life in the surrounding area.

The Bairabi Sairang Railway line has also brought transformative change in freight transportation in Mizoram, enabling goods, including essential commodities, automobiles and construction materials to reach Aizawl.

The Ministry highlighted that in the last year, more than two thousand five hundred waggons of railway freight have been delivered at Sairang.
