The auspicious festival of Ganga Dussehra is being celebrated across Uttar Pradesh. Devotees from all walks of life have flocked to the bank of Ganga river to pay their respects.
In the wake of the festival, security has been beefed up, with police maintaining vigilance at riverbanks and ghats on Ganga Dusshera. Additional police and post-divers have been deployed at the ghats. Thousands of devotees started arriving since early morning at the ghats of River Ganga in major cities like Amroha, Meerut, Kanpur, Farrukhabad, Prayagraj, Ghazipur and Ballia. In Varanasi special arrangements were made at all 84 ghats for the devotees who are arriving to take holi dip from all across the country.
Ganga Dussehra is also called Gangavataran as it celebrates the holy descent of the Ganga to earth, which is believed to have occurred on this auspicious day.
