In Assam, more than 1.15 lakh people have taken shelter in relief camps as the flood situation continues to remain grim, with the worst impact being felt in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts. According to the latest report, 14 more flood-related deaths have been recorded, including seven in Charaideo, six in Sivasagar and one in Jorhat.

 

With these latest casualties, the overall flood death toll in the state has risen to 61. The major rivers Dikhou, Disang and Dhansiri continue to flow above the danger level, aggravating the flood situation in Upper Assam.

 

Relief and rescue operations are continuing across the affected areas. Disaster response teams, district administrations and other agencies are engaged in providing relief materials, evacuating stranded people and extending assistance to flood-hit families. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have intensified relief measures in the worst-affected districts.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a telephonic conversation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and reviewed the flood situation in the state. In a social media post, Mr. Sarma said that the Prime Minister sought an update on the extent of the devastation, the progress of relief operations, and the challenges being faced on the ground.

 

He said that Prime Minister Modi assured him of every possible assistance from the Central Government to support the ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.

 

Mr. Sarma also said that the people of Assam are deeply grateful to the Prime Minister for his reassurance and steadfast support during this difficult time.
