Assam Floods Affect Over 9,000 People Across Six Districts

Flood conditions continue to affect several districts of Assam, while urban flooding has caused disruptions in Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts. The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in several districts of the state over the next couple of days.

 

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, six districts- Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur, Dhemaji and Jorhat, remain affected by floods. Ten revenue circles and 61 villages have been impacted, affecting 9,616 people. No loss of human life has been reported so far.

 

Urban flooding has also been reported from Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts. In Guwahati, waterlogging and artificial flooding in several localities have disrupted vehicular movement.

Waterlogging has also been reported from parts of Sivasagar town, including Potiaholi, Bhotiapar, Pachipathar, Duliajan Maid and Deulakhat. Local authorities have initiated drainage and dewatering measures to provide relief to affected residents.
