In Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched the disbursement of interim financial assistance of 15,000 rupees each to flood-affected families of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts at a programme held in Dibrugarh.
The financial assistance is being provided through Direct Benefit Transfer to around 75,000 flood-affected families in the four districts. In the first phase, assistance was transferred to 62,696 families, while the remaining beneficiaries are expected to receive the amount by August 5.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also virtually released the state subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for eligible beneficiaries from the four flood-affected districts. A total state subsidy of ₹41.67 crore was released for 9,289 beneficiaries.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sarma said the state government has taken a series of measures to support people affected by the recent floods. He lauded the resilience shown by the affected communities in overcoming the calamity and expressed gratitude for their courage and cooperation. The Chief Minister also appreciated the spirit of solidarity displayed by people who helped one another despite facing personal losses and acknowledged their efforts in restoring normalcy.
