India’s men’s badminton team settled for the bronze medal after a 3-1 defeat to China in the semi-final in Aichi, Japan today.
Indian player Lakshya Sen lost the opening match 21-16, 21-18 to Shi Yuqi before Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty levelled the tie with a 21-11, 22-20 win over reigning world champions Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.
Ayush Shetty then lost 21-19, 21-13 to defending Asian Games champion Li Shifeng, while Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun went down fighting 21-16, 17-21, 21-9 to China’s He Ji Ting and Liu Yi in the fourth match.
The bronze medal takes India’s overall tally to 12 medals – 1 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze.
