In the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships, three Indian women boxers won gold medals, while 10 others bagged silver medals in Jakarta today.
In the Under-19 category, Chandrika Pujari won the gold medal in the 51 kg weight class, while Prachi claimed gold in the 57 kg category. Chandrika defeated Uzbekistan’s Najokat Mardonova by a unanimous 5-nil verdict to win the gold. In the 57 kg category, Prachi beat Indonesia’s Dira Artika by 5-nil to win another gold medal for India. Gunjan in 45-48 kg, Joyshree in 54 kg, Chahat in 60 kg, Anshika in 75 kg, Megha Shyokand in 80 kg, and Prachi Tokas in Plus 81 kg added silver medals to India’s tally.
In the Under-23 division, Nisha won the gold medal in the 54 kg weight class. Nisha defeated Japan’s Korin Kokofu by a unanimous 5-nil decision to win the gold medal. Neetika Chand in 60 kg, Kajal in 65 kg, Muskan in 75 kg, and Priyanka in Plus 80 kg won silver medals. Earlier, Tanu in 51 kg, Prachi in 57 kg, Shivani in 70 kg, and Naina in 80 kg had won bronze medals in their respective weight categories.
The Men’s finals will be held tomorrow, with three Indian boxers in the Under-23 category and two Indian boxers in the Under-19 category competing for gold medals.
