In Keralam, the famous Aranmula Vallasadya at the historic Sree Parthasarathy Temple in Pathanamthitta resumes today after a temporary suspension due to heavy rain and flooding. 

 

The ritual feast was put on hold following the rise in the water level of the River Pampa. Authorities decided to restart the tradition after the river level receded.

 

Vallasadya is a unique offering by devotees to Lord Parthasarathy and is organised by the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom in association with the Travancore Devaswom Board. During the 60-day festival, traditional snake boats, known as Palliyodams, arrive with oarsmen from villages along the Pampa. They are given a ceremonial welcome before participating in the grand ritual feast at the temple.  More than 60 traditional dishes are served on plantain leaves during the Valla Saday.
