Approval given to University of Liverpool, UK, to establish campus in Bengaluru

In a significant step toward internationalisation of higher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Ministry of Education today handed over the Letter of Approval (LoA) to the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, to establish its branch campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The letter was handed over in the presence of the External Affairs Minister and the UK Foreign Secretary. In a social media post, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described this as a significant milestone in the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 and India’s journey towards becoming a global hub of learning, innovation and research. Mr Pradhan said the presence of leading international universities in India will expand opportunities for the youth, strengthen academic collaboration and further deepen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Congratulating University of Liverpool on the initiative, Mr Pradhan said that he looks forward to welcoming its first cohort of students to India.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said, India and UK are well positioned to build a new future oriented and mutually beneficially partnership. In his remarks at the meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in New Delhi this evening, Dr Jaishankar said, the meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the India – UK Vision 2035 under all the five pillars of growth, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and clean energy as well as education.
