Andhra Pradesh: Commercial operations begin at International Airport in Vizianagaram 

 
Commercial operations have commenced at the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Vizianagaram district today, marking a major milestone in the development of air connectivity in North Andhra Pradesh.
 
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, Vizianagaram District Collector and other officials participated in the inaugural operational programme. Passengers travelling on the first IndiGo and Air India Express flights were presented boarding passes and mementos.
 
The airport, developed by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 1st of this month.
Today, the airport handled domestic and international flights connecting the region with Hyderabad, Abu Dhabi and Singapore. The first international services included IndiGo flights to and from Abu Dhabi and Scoot flights connecting Singapore.
 
The airport has been designed initially to handle 60 lakh passengers annually, with scope for phased expansion. Its 3,800-metre runway can handle wide-body aircraft.
