Anant Chaturdashi is being celebrated across Mumbai today, marking the culmination of the ten-day Ganeshotsav that began on Ganesh Chaturthi. Akashvani correspondent reports that Mumbaikars will bid a tearful adieu to their beloved Ganpati Bappa amid the beats of dhol-tasha, pushpavrishti and chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”.

 

Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the grand farewell to Lord Ganesh, as they gather to catch a glimpse of their favourite deity. The visarjan processions of Lalbaugcha Raja and Mumbaicha Raja are among the most iconic sights of the city.

 

The Maharashtra Tourism Department has set up a special viewing pavilion at Girgaon Chowpatty for foreign tourists to witness the Ganesh immersion ceremony and experience Mumbai’s vibrant cultural traditions.

 

Major immersion sites, including Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar, Juhu and other locations, have been equipped with special arrangements for devotees. The BMC has deployed civic personnel, lifeguards, ambulances and motorboats to facilitate safe and smooth immersions. The city police have also made elaborate security arrangements, with more than 24 thousand personnel deployed across Mumbai.
