Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi has said in Lok Sabha that as on 1st of this month, there are 33.13 crore domestic LPG consumers including 10.58 crore Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) connections in the country. All domestic LPG consumers receive LPG refills at regulated retail selling prices which are lower than market determined prices. Currently, domestic LPG refill prices of 942 rupees per cylinder carries an implicit subsidy of more than 500 rupees per cylinder.
The Minister also said that the Government have been ensuring availability of domestic LPG at affordable prices to households in the country for which Government have paid to the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) a compensation of 22 thousand crore rupees in FY 2022-23 and paying 30 thousand crore rupees during FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27. Even after the payment of this compensation, accumulated under-recoveries of the PSU OMCs on domestic LPG were more than 51000 crores rupees as of 30th June 2026 itself.
